Rumors are flying thick and fast that ESPN The Magazine’s October 2009 body issue will carry nude photos of sports personalities like Danica Patrick.

Sports By Brooks has reported that ESPN will publish its own body issue or swimsuit issue – it’s not clear which one since it can’t be both – to take on Sport Illustrated’s famed swimsuit issues. Danica Patrick update: New photo gallery, NASCAR plans

Apparently, the athletes will be shot tastefully, in non-explicit poses much in the line of Sports Illustrated’s photo spreads that are just short of nudity.

ESPN The Magazine has not confirmed Danica Patrick’a inclusion in the swimsuit issue, though.

Gary Belsky, Editor In Chief, ESPN The Magazine, has been quoted as saying, “When we do reveal the participant list, we will not reveal who disrobed and who did not. The photos will answer most such questions, of course; and we will otherwise let the individual athletes reveal, should they so choose, whether they removed all clothing for our shoots.”

Earlier this year, Danica Patrick featured in the 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.

The magazine carried a 10″ x 13″ peel-and-stick poster of Danica Patrick in a white bikini.

In the 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, Danica was shot lying on a Shelby Cobra 427 convertible. Danica’s bikini photos were taken by photographer Marlena Bielinska, in New York.

The glamorous Danica Patrick is not new to being in the media glare. In fact, this Indy driver is more known for her sex appeal than her racing career.

Danica has appeared in a host of magazines like FHM and Sports Illustrated, and also in TV programs and interviews, including the Late Show with David Letterman.

In February 2009, Danica appeared in a superbowl commerical for GoDaddy.com. The ad went on win the TiVo award for the most most-watched and the most recorded & rewatched ad, a survey had revealed.

The ads that included a “shower” ad and an “enhancement” ad worked very well for the website.

Will Danica Patrick’s ability to grab eyeballs help ESPN The Magazine to top Sports Illustrated bikini editions?

Or rather will it help boost their flagging circulation figures? Given her track record and her incredible popularity ESPN The magazine’s 2009 October body/bikini issue is likely to at least outsell its other 2009 issues.

26-year old Danica Patrick was the Rookie of the Year in 2005 Indianapolis 500 and the 2005 IndyCar Series. She went on to win the 2008 Indy Japan 300, to be the first female race driver to win an Indy car race.

Danica was included in FHM’s 100 sexiest women in the world list in 2006 and 2007 and was also voted the sexiest athlete in Victoria’s Secret “What is Sexy” list.
